Democracy

Voters: Can we try the opposition, Master Yoda?

First of all ... I seek refuge in Allah SWT from errors. والله أعلم

OK. So here it goes. Honestly, I'm not a person who believes modern democracy is the best. (>-<)v Yes, I live in a democratic country. It has its times of good leadership. It's very much nicer than a brutal regime. But ... even though eligible & encouraged by the SPR, I've never voted before. Ever. Simply because ...

I don't know the candidates good enough to prefer one.

When I vote, I want it to be with 100% conscience. I want someone I have clear faith in. Someone that isn't necessarily popstar popular, but whom I believe is brilliant to take care of the society. I want a good shepherd who will bring out the best in each citizen & protect the nation!!! ففهمناها سليمان، وكلا آتينا حكما وعلما [Q21:78-80]

So. How do I get that? I know it's not by eenie meenie mini moe promises & poster photos. Since I can't make a clear responsible choice, that is why I never voted before. (◠-◠)v

Anyway as I see it, others don't necessarily know the candidate well but they do vote. It seems to me, voters choose according to the party rather than the person. But one thing that I haven't figured out about party loyalty (asabiyya عصبية) is the rivalry. I dislike that it disunites society. على شفا حفرة من النار [Q3:103] I dislike the "My-party-is-better-than-yours". كل حزب بما لديهم فرحون [Q30:32], ياأيها الذين آمنوا لا يسخر قوم من قوم عسى أن يكونوا خيرا منهم [Q49:11] And two contesting parties like the fall of the other. The politics are ...

I do believe in advising the ruler. يهدون بالحق وبه يعدلون [Q71:81 | QA]
But not to a point that the job of the opposition is - to crush others down.

I thought of what kind of system could be better. Monarchies? Even without an election, it had worked out when the king is good. [QA David, Solomon] It had failed when the king is bad. [QA Pharaoh] Even in modern democracy, it works out that way! So basically - the whole point is to get a good, strong & brilliant leader. How to get the enlightened shepherd on the top.

Honestly ... I'm thinking if the Jedi Council would work ...

Powerful you have become, the dark side I sense in you.

Perhaps if one has the ambition to rule, but did not win elections, he/she could start up a business company. Be the CEO & drive it to achieve international conglomerate status. Then we'll see if you got the mettle. والله أعلم

At present, I am in the view that a conglomerate could be like a country of its own. I read Apple Co is bigger than one whole country's economy. So if you can head that conglomerate brilliantly & responsibly, perhaps you hv what it takes to be a good leader. والله أعلم

& if I may ask, please do not jostle for power.

Prophet Solomon is a spectacular leader. He is truly blessed by Allah SWT with great wisdom.

In the case of the sheep, Allah SWT inspired him the fairer decision: A sheep traversed a field, or vineyard. David ruled that the owner of the field should take the sheep in compensation for his wasted crops. Solomon ruled that the sheep be given to the field’s owner to benefit them until the field is returned to its original state. Then each man returns to the other his property. His judgement is confirmed by David. ماشاء الله

So I personally believe a leader should posses greater wisdom & insight, as this is vital in making sharp, fair & ground decisions. These decisions are important for the development of the country & its people. The decisions might not be popular, but it should be right. & maybe it helps to possess charisma as well - for the leader to remain & realize such decisions. الحمد لله

As a leader, you must know where you are leading the people. As people, if given the chance, you should choose carefully & not bcoz you're promised flowery things for your own personal gain. Pls think about the country & other people, TQ.

Welcome
Peace be upon you
