According to Wikipedia, Muar witnessed the beginning of the 15th century Malacca Sultanate when Iskandar Shah (1400-1414) established a settlement in Pagoh. & Muar also witnessed the fall of the Malacca Sultanate when the heir escaped to it after the Portuguese invasion (1511).

In Muar, Ophir (אוֹפִיר) is the name of Mt Ledang [here | map] - with its legendary 'bridge of gold'. & I read the Chinese called the region 'Kim Sua' (金山 Golden Mountain), the Indians 'Suvarnabhumi' (सुवर्ण भूमि Land of Gold), the Greeks Golden Chersonese (Χρυσή χερσόνησος). [ref1, ref2] So, was the region rich in gold in ancient times?
